Welcome to Mr. Albert's 5th Grade

Math and Science Blog!

    The Math and Science team has worked extremely hard to get your school year off to a great start. 7 weeks have already zoomed past us! Everyone did such a great job creating personal goals during the student led Fall Conferences (Monday October 10, 2011).

Math: Students will continue to review basic operations, prime and composite, and finding the factors of numbers 1-100. We will begin working to extend their algebraic thinking by using hundred boards and finding patterns in word problems to create numerical expressions. 

Science: Students have investigated nutrition, the physical properties of matter including mixtures and solutions and the uses of energy (mechanical, electrical, sound, light, and thermal). We will be creating two kinds of circuits and  during the next science unit. 

• STEMScopes is a great online tool for your child to use at home. It is an interactive website that Round Rock ISD is using to enhance our science curriculum. Students may have already talked about the increased amount of time they are spending on computers this year. We feel it is very important for students to use technology on a regular basis and STEMscopes is a great tool to make sure that technology is used in the classroom and at home. 
• Your child already knows how to access and use STEMscopes. Take a look with your child. They will blow you away with their ability to use technology to enhance their learning. Besides, its a lot of fun to use too!
